These images display the work of Italian street artist Blu, one is a preliminary illustration from one of his sketchbooks. The other is a photograph taken of an extremely large scale mural he painted onto the outer wall of a building in Madrid. As you can see both are representations of the same image, however one is an example of the experimental stages of his design process and the other is his final outcome. Blu will have evaluated the effectiveness of the preliminary sketch in his sketchbook, before deciding to develop that specific design into a project of such large proportions. In some instances Blu will completely abandon his original concept by the time he comes to produce his wall painting and will produce a design purely based on improvisation. Blu has utilised this blank public space as a means to express his own personal opinion of the financial system and the world of corporate tycoons. This design has been produced specifically for the surrounding inhabitants, people who will have the privilege of passing by his display on a regular basis and can therefore view his unique exhibit for free. Blu is constantly experimenting with different media and techniques, renowned for his disconcerting and aggressive sketchbook drawings, morphing street art stop frame animations and incredibly large scale wall paintings. Through these mediums Blu has created a truly recognisable visual vocabulary, instantly recognisable for its surreal and incredibly barbaric concepts.
