The image above depicts the front cover of the November 2010 issue of Dazed and Confused magazine. As you can see the image has a clear visual hierarchy. Instantly our eyes are drawn to the incredibly bold and large scale word ‘DAZED’ written in capitals which appears at the top of the page; what is unusual about this is that the ‘& CONFUSED’ aspect of the magazines name appears in a largely reduced size and so therefore half of the title becomes almost forgotten or disregarded for a period whilst the audience is attracted to much more dominant areas of the page such as the image.
We are immediately attracted to the word ‘DAZED’ down to its bright whiteness which is a stark contrast to the deep rich browns of the photograph underneath. The leads us to our second port of call which is the photographic image of Danielle Radcliffe, a portrayal of an alter ego, the image presents a darker more mysterious Daniel with an edge which differs dramatically from his persona of the child star actor we know as Harry Potter. This then leads us to the text positioned beneath the image that reinforces the meaning behind the visuals and presents this issues main feature which reads ‘shape shift’, closely followed by the text above that which outlines that it is in fact Daniel Radcliffe, just perceived in a different light.
Finally our eyes are taken to the centrally aligned group of text located in the bottom quarter of the page which fills us in with any other information of the magazines contents in a final attempt to persuade its audience to purchase the issue.
